Case Study:
Dublin 4 Gastropub

Dublin 4 Gastropub opened its doors on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, 2012 offering a new food concept within a Dublin style pub. Its focus is to curate chef-driven flavorful dishes featuring premium farm-to-table ingredients. Owner Darren Coyle chose to deploy iPads for several different applications within the restaurant.  “We use apps like OpenTable to run our reservation system to directly interact with customers as well as inventory and learning management software to take care of back of house operations" Coyle said.

The Challenge

Dublin 4 needed a single solution that would function beautifully in the front of house as hardware for a table and reservation management system, but also something for back of house operations that could withstand the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen and keep their devices protected.

"We didn't want to compromise aesthetics when it came to an iPad charging system on our hostess stand," said Coyle. "Our employees use the iPads for a multitude of purposes, and are always on the go.  Unplugging and plugging the iPad using a lightning connector for charging just wasn't going to cut it."

"At the same time, we needed a system that would keep our iPads safe in our kitchen that we use for inventory management" mentioned Coyle.

"Of all the solutions we tested, none had the versatility of the LaunchPort Products."

The Decision Process and Implementation

Coyle evaluated several systems before choosing The LaunchPort and LaunchPort Rugged Systems.

"Of all the solutions we tested, none had the versatility of the LaunchPort Products."  Coyle highlighted wireless charging, magnetic mounting and the LaunchPort Rugged System's MIL STD certification as major factors in his choice.

For the front of house deployment, running his reservation and table management software, Coyle chose to go with LaunchPort BaseStations and Sleeves.  For back of house operations, Coyle added a level of protection to the system with the Rugged Case. Both solutions required very little set up.  "We slipped the iPads into their sleeves and plugged in our BaseStations, and we were ready to go" said Coyle.

Efficiency, cost savings and peace of mind that his devices are safe, are a few of the results Coyle has seen since deployment of his LaunchPort Systems.

"The LaunchPort system solved a problem we didn't even know we had.  It provided a home for our devices." Employees have a spot to return the iPads, making day to day operations more efficient.  "Everyone knows exactly where the iPad belongs and the magnetic mounting feature allows us to keep up with the busy pace of the restaurant, it's truly grab and go."

Foy Coyle, wireless charging was key.  "The elimination of wires added a level of productivity to our front of house operations that's allowed us to focus more on our customers and less on making sure our devices are powered."

In the kitchen, the Rugged System has helped Coyle protect his iPad safe.  "In the past year we've had to replace two iPads from breakage from accidents in the kitchen. With this rugged case, I trust we won't be investing any additional money in replacements from drops."
